Home-Brew Sports Drink

A nice change from Gatorade. Adapted from a recipe shared by one of my favorite professors at Weber State University, Julie Hansen, M.S.,R.D.N.

Quart

  • 5 Tablespoons sugar
  • 4 cups water
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • Lemon zest (zest the lemon before squeezing if using fresh lemon)
  • 2 Tablespoons lemon juice (fresh or preserved)

Gallon

  • 1-1/4 cups sugar
  • 16 cups water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Lemon zest (zest the lemon before squeezing if using fresh lemon)
  • 1/2 cup lemon juice (fresh or preserved)

STIR and refrigerate–it tastes better if it sits a bit.
